Beijing Pollution (Photos)

(Hi-Res Photo)

I know this is a pretty burned out story and such, but I just wanted to share with everyone just how the pollution can get here. I took these photo’s on the 25th floor of an apartment building facing west just outside of the east 4th ring road on Monday afternoon. That day’s AQI or Air Quality Index hit 500, the highest possible level on the scale. The AQI is not normally reported on by the government, but the US Embassy in Beijing has set up a twitter account @BeijingAir which gives hourly updates on Beijing’s air quality. If you don’t have a VPN or Twitter, GET BOTH! Or you can head over to this website (screenshot below) for hourly updates pulled directly from that Twitter account.
