The China Daily has reported that Beijing, China’s Capital City, is aiming to be completely Wi-Fi by the end of 2011. According to senior local officials areas within the fifth ring road and the central regions of Beijing’s suburbs will have access to the internet via Wi-Fi hotspots, essentially turning Beijing in to a “Wireless City”.

The city of Beijing has already set up more than 5000 Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the city, and the number is expected to grow exponentially this year. Once the system is set up there will be a few features that will be added that citizens will be able to access to make life simpler. These include paying water and electricity bills, taking government opinion polls, paying taxes, and buying bus tickets.
