Chinese Program Developers are on FIRE!

Does this phone look familiar to you? If so, it’s because it’s you’re a geek awesome. One of the latest Shanzhai clones based on an HTC Legend, and it’s been released right on the heels of HTC’s own London release event. One of the great things about this phone is that it’s gotten a bit of leg-up on it’s Shanzhai siblings.

Most of the clones that have come out in China recently have been stuck with the now “ancient” Android 1.6, and that goes for both Phones and many Tablet PC’s as well. Chinese program developers are on a roll this week though (first with iOS 4), and have now come up with a solution to their Android 1.6 problem.

One of these brilliant developers we’ve spoken about has found a way to get Android 2.1 on to this HTC clone, and it’s got many people quite excited. This is an important step because up until now Android 2.1 phones were unavailable on Shanzhai phones. With this upgraded OS now available, many Chinese and foreign consumers now have the option to purchase Android 2.1 enabled phones that are nearly identical to the genuine ones, but at massive price reduction.

The Phone’s got 256MB Ram, 512MB ROM and is powered by MTK’s new MT6516 chip. On top of all that one of its more notable features is that it’s got a clean capacitive touchscreen which supports multi-touch. All-in-all it’s not a perfect phone, but it is pretty LEGENDary! (haha, see what we did there?). Still no word on a release date or how much it’ll cost, but we’ll keep you updated.

Check out the back plate! They aren’t even trying to disguise the fact that it’s an exact copy!
