It seems that Linkedin has plans to expand it's business in china sometime soon. The CEO of LinkedIn, a professional social networking site, has openly talked about possible problems and hurdles the company will have to overcome if they plan to succeed in establishing a larger user base, but he said they are willing to possibly make a go of it. Linkedin is one of the few remaining western social networking sites still unblocked by the Great Firewall of China.

China is on track to become the largest PC market in the world this year. Last year it was second only to the US, and it's supposed to grow to at least match that of the US this year. Unfortunately for Microsoft, the market is only yielding 1/20th of the revenue that the US market is. This is in large part due to the fact that approximately 78% of PC software installed in China in 2010 was pirated.

According to Hitwise, Sina Microblog (or Sina Weibo) accounted for 1 in every 158 Internet visits in China for April 2011. This makes China one of the most voracious micro-blogging nations worldwide, with a greater market share of visits going to microblogging sites in China than in the UK, US, France, Canada, Australia or India. With the knowledge that Sina Weibo have been rolling out new features such as an instant messaging service, and an English UI iPhone app, you should be less surprised by this news. Asia however is a completely different sort of beast, and many countries here have their own social media platforms that are better tailored to the language and social culture, like China.

Prisoners at a Chinese labor camp are allegedly being forced to spend their hard time farming gold on World of Warcraft.Supposedly the guards of the facility were able to make between RMB 5,000 and 6,000 (~US$ 770-925) a day by selling the gold to black market retailers of the online currency. I'm not really sure how I feel about this, as I've played WoW for many years, and have admittedly purchased gold from retailers in the past. After reading more of the article you may change your mind about purchasing gold in the future.

The development of Android as a mobile gaming OS has been on the up and up, which I'm happy about. Until now though, I'd never seen a supposedly dedicated gaming Android phone that actually had an potential. Well it seems that developers just needed a bit of assistance from our good buddy alcohol to come up with a brilliant design.

If you've been following Gadgets Republic a while you'll have seen me profess my obsession with Anroid, but I never mentioned that I personally own the Samsung Nexus S. If I were allowed to use only one word to describe my feelings for the device, it would be LOVE.
