The Meizu M8 for M9 trade-in program that begun on May 10th seems to be a success as a member of Meizu Me, the popular Meizu forum, has received their brand new M9. This is pretty exciting news, and a huge PR and reputation boost for Meizu which is quickly becoming one of the best and most trusted cell phone brands in China.

For those serious Android and Google fans out there like myself, there’s really only one option when buying a new phone, and that’s Google’s own Samsung Nexus S. If you’ve been following Gadgets Republic a while you’ll have seen me profess my obsession with Anroid, but I never mentioned that I personally own the Samsung Nexus S. If I were allowed to use only one word to describe my feelings for the device, it would be LOVE. Shanzhai developers have finally gotten around to making a knockoff, but the question remains….have they done the original justice?

The Shanzhai developers in Shenzhen are known for creating some pretty excellent looking HTC knockoffs, but Windows Phone 7 has never gotten any love. Well with this latest HTC HD7 knockoff they’ve created a Windows Phone 7 look-a-like UI for the Windows 6.5 operating system it actually runs on. It may only look like a WP7 phone, but under the hood it sure is built like one.

Jack Wong, CEO of Meizu, has released a teaser photo of the long anticipated Meizu M9II which has now been renamed to the Meizu MX. MX is apparently short for “Meng Xiang” (梦想) which means “Dream” in English. Mr. Wong also announced that the 16GB MX will have a price tag of RMB3580 (~US$ 550), a massive increase over the original M9′s RMB2,699 (~US$ 413) price tag. You can chalk that up to some pretty great specs, some of which have already been released.

A little while back we gave you a sneak peak at the Apanda A100, a 4.3-inch Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone. There was a rumor that the A100 would release at the end of March, but it’s already a couple weeks in to April and there’s been no word from the company. Recently the company has updated the specs page on their website which got us thinking. Does this update signal an imminent release?

The Gooapple G22 Phone, otherwise known as the Spawn of Satan, has been priced and is now available for pre-order. The phone actually looks pretty sweet in the hands-on video we saw before, even though it’s an iPhone 4 clone. As a pre-order special, the G22 is priced at RMB999 (US$ 152), but that will jump to 1500RMB (US$ 230) once the pre-order stock is sold out.

A little while ago we introduced you to the Apanda A100, a 4.3-inch Android device from the heart of Shenzhen. We’ve been hard pressed to find any other decent 4.3-inch Shanzhai smartphones, until now. Introducing the BEON TS007, a 4.3-inch smarthphone bears absolutely no resemblance to an iPhone, THANK GOD!

We’ve seen plenty of Shanzhai gimmicks over the years but this is by far the most disturbing yet. It’s the Gooapple phone, and it’s basically the spawn of Satan’s attempt at creating a phone. As a pretty serious Android fan I’m feeling a bit quezy looking at the combination of both my favorite and most despised tech icons (although that could just be lunch). The designers didn’t put much thought into what my feelings would be on the phone’s branding, but they have actually put some thought in to it’s specs. At the end of the day though, the best thing about the G22 is it’s mind blowing boot up intro.

Last week we mentioned we’d gotten our hands on the Hero H200, a sweet capacitive touchscreen smartphone made right here in china. Well we’ve had quite a few days to put it through it’s paces, and we’re surprised at just how impressive the device really is.

During our weekly trips to the grey market this weekend, we got our hands on the Hero H2000 (or Othello), a capacitive touchscreen smartphone with a price just as smart. It only took us a few minutes to decide that this was a phone worth having a look at, and we’ll have the full hands-on review for you in the next few days!
